Lecturer in Higher Education
University of Surrey
I am a lecturer in the Department of Higher Education at the University of Surrey. I am originally from Trinidad and Tobago. I have taught in Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago and in the UK.
I teach on our Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching (GCLT) which is the programme that all new staff have to take in order to achieve accreditation as an academic teacher. I lead on the Education Research module within this programme. I am also the Programme Leader for our PhD in Higher Education.
I enjoy researching issues in higher education. I research on issues around academic and professional identities of staff and students and how this is formed by their environment and how it affects their life/professional outcomes. I am particularly interested in researching people who may sometimes be at the margins of society such as girls in STEM education, widening participation students and staff and students from different geographies.
I have a strong interest in migrant academics and have recently edited a book on Academics’ International Teaching Journeys.
I enjoy writing on my Higher Education Research blog - as well as going to the cinema (which is doubly difficult with a toddler!).
