As the Director of the Office of Teaching, Learning & Technology Center for Teaching, Jean leads the CfT staff in creating and sustaining professional development opportunities for UI instructors. During her years at the Center, she has collaborated with OTLT colleagues and UI faculty members and administrators to launch institutional initiatives around active learning spaces (TILE), data-informed approaches to course design (Learning Design Collaboratory), and rank-appropriate faculty professional development programs (Early Career Faculty Academy). The international, interdisciplinary service-learning course she co-developed has been taught for more than a dozen years. 

Jean is committed to promoting a university culture that values teaching and learning excellence. The Center encourages the use of effective strategies for engaging students in their learning. Her work has helped situate the University of Iowa within larger national conversations about the role of higher education in global society,

In 2014 she was awarded the University of Iowa Staff Excellence Award.

Prior to joining the University of Iowa, Jean was a public radio producer and freelance writer.
