Tonya Whitehead recently received her Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Wayne State University where she is the Assistant Director at the Office for Teaching and Learning (OTL) and Part-Time Faculty in the College of Engineering. In her role at the OTL, she focuses on STEM Pedagogy and teaching development programs for graduate students. For the past year, supported by the WSU WIDER program, she has been implementing evidence pedagogies in her basic engineering courses. These efforts led to her being honored with the 2017 Garrett T. Heberlein Endowment Award for Excellence in Teaching. Before coming to Wayne State she received a Master of Science in Manufacturing and Engineering Management and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering at Michigan State University and spent several years working as a Project Manager at a large information technology company. She is an active member of the American Society of Engineering Education, the Biomedical Engineering Society, the Society for Women Engineers, and Tau Beta Pi, Engineering Honor Society.
